My wife and I have both a Harley 1200 Custom and an LS650. I find that both bikes are similar in their appeal. It's a "ride by the seat of your pants on a thumping hunk of iron" kind of feeling. The big difference between the two bikes is power and weight.
Take it from me, the Harley has PLENTY of power. Not high RPM screaming Japanese crotch rocket power, but deep high torque low RPM feel-it-in-every-bone-in-your body power! Harley also has one of the best transmission and clutch systems anywhere. The shift is solid and smooth, and is better than the BMW R100RT that I used to have. The bottom line is that riding becomes an experience in itself ... there is nothing that comes close to what it's like riding a Harley, except riding a Harley ...
However ... when my wife is busy and I'm riding alone, I find myself choosing the LS650 more often than not. There is something about the balance, weight, and power of the Savage that make it a treat, particularly if I am going to be riding in the city.
It's kind of like dating sisters ... do I ask out the peppy little one, or the more mature one ...
(uh oh, better not let my wife hear me thinking like that!)
Regards to all!
